Z-Flex was one of a handful of skate companies finding its way during the infancy of the skateboarding industry. With its well known Z-Boyz skate team, some better known for surfing, rather than skateboarding, they morphed a surf style into what today is known as "Old School" pool skating.
Del Mar Skate Contest The Del Mar contest was the monumental experience for the skateboarding world. The Z-Boyz made a huge impression with their aggressive yet fluid surf style which placed them high in the contest and left a dominating impression amongst the rest of the skateboard industry. The Z-Boyz, the Del Mar Skate Contest, and Z Flex Skateboards set skateboarding on the road that it is on today. |

Jay Adams
History from Jay Adams:
well after the zephyr team broke apart TONY ALVA ,BOB BINIAK WENTZLE RUML SHOGO KUBO and myself started riding for my stepdads new team we were called EZ RYDER.web didnt last long only a few contests but we made some skateboards with that name it eventually evolved into Z-FLEX TONY ALVA was still riding the boards KENT made but he went to LOGAN EARTH SKI. KENT moved ZFLEX to inglewood where the boards were being made.MARTY GRIMES and POLAR BEAR were on the team as well as SHOGO KUBO MYSELF and a few east coast guys JIMMY PLUMMER and GEORGE WILSON and ZACK NESS. We all worked at Z-FLEZ making skateboards and even CHRIS CAHILL started making surfboards over there as well After Inglewood Z-FLEX moved back to VENICE and KENT got a partner named CHRIS PASK.Marina del rey SKATEPARK WAS OPEN AND Z FLEX had a few of the young VENICE guys on the team who were ripping at the park.I ended up leaving the team somewhere in the Inglewood era because i didnt think i was getting enough money and KENT wanted to keep it small. I went to LOGAN with ALVA and ended up finally getting some pictures in skateboarder magizine. Z-FLEX had a strong team in VENICE and the east coast and some good guys in SAN DIEGO.I think i came back for awhil in between some of the years but really cant remember. It wasnt until recently that we reissued my Z-FLEX design well not that recently maybe in the late 90’s.My design is definently the oldest graphic thats still on the market and thats one of the reasons ive kept it going for so long
