Flexible Freeride Skateboards
Riding a wave or a beautiful powder hill is one of the most amazing feeling, we can imagine. Everybody, who knows the thrill of speed and slide, dreams about it, dreams about something comparable and is looking for alternatives. One alternative is skateboarding. Tricks in the halfpipe and streetskating are hard to learn and to achieve a high level it needs a lot of talent, practice and endurance. Freeriding on smooth streets, where it is a question of speed and carving techniques, comes very close to the surf- and snowboard sensation. Airflow Skateboards Airflow has the according product. Flexible Skateboards that are bended upwardly like an arrow . The flex makes it very easy to push, to accelerate out of slalom movements and to ride narrow turns with maximum control. Combined with soft polyurethane wheels and agile slalom trucks you will have the desired slalom sensation already in the first attempts. All these features make our skateboards attractive to a large public. Shapes Airflow offers race skateboards from 70cm to 95cm. Each length is available in different degrees of hardness, thanks to the fine scale of flex for each carving demand the appropriate board will be found. The shapes are designed in a way, the board does not touch the wheels in narrow turns and offers optimal steadfastness for almost every task. These are all characteristics, which makes Airflow Skateboards extremely successful for Skateboard races, as classical slalom races, skate boarder x or downhill races. Construction Airflow Skateboards are constructed from A to Z in Switzerland out of fiberglass, birch or ash wood and fine epoxide resins. Graphics are created on computer and printed on the board by serigraphy. Wood and fiberglass are spread with glue and melted together in special moulds with 20-25 tons. This way Airflow skateboards get their characteristic bended flex. Because of the parallel assembly of wood layers and fiberglass each layer contributes to the performance of the flex The flex gets highly tent and longlasting. All Skateboards are available in different degrees of hardness (Flex). The different degrees of hardness (flex) are related to the construction and the proportion of wood and fiberglass. By the fine tuning of the hardness the optimal board for each weight and each Carving demand can be found. The still rectangular skateboard are shaped by a computer controlled machine. The edges are rounded and varnished by hand. In the end each skateboard is coated with our special grip grippcoat An extraordinary feature of Airfow is the transparent, high adhesive and long-lasting special coating on the topside of the board. Compared to the conventional griptape the top of the board is treated with a transparent Sand. A special resin surrounds each single grain of sand and holds it so strong that the optimal grip remains even after intensive use. The single grains are dispensed in a way that dirt doesn't fill up the spaces in between. You will not slip, even if the board is really dirty. The transparency of our gripcoat allows us to design the top of the board with brilliant graphics. Use The flexible Skateboards are mostly used for locomotion in the city, for freeriding and cruising the street downhill. But the good results of our teamriders even show, that our models are really competitive. In general just a few tricks are possible. Therefore a lot of the young skater mount aluminum or carbon hooks on their "Airflow 702" boards. So obstacles in the city can easily be jumped over and even radical tricks are possible. In Zurich the center of the recent trend of flexible freeride skateboards mostly short boards are used, but a lot of the advanced riders prefer boards over 85 cm |
Airflow SkateboardsHistory of PC Slalomboards / Airflow
Behind PC Slalomboards and Airflow stays Francesco Puligheddu, Dipl. Ing. ETH and Chris Hart, Eidg. Dipl. Carpenter, two friends from Zurich, in a word Puli and Chris. First steps of PC 1985, began our adventure in the unknown world of skate-, surf and snowboard production for ourselves. Three years later we already sold small quantities of streetdecks to local Shops. We spent a pretty part of our life refining the art of making fine tuned skate-, and snowboards. PC SLALOMBOARDS 1995, when the revival of slalomskating hit Zurich we were ready for it. With offering individual slalomskateboards under the name PC SLALOMBOARDS, we made the breakthrough for an established trademark. The speciality of PC SLALOMBOARDS is the individual design on the bottom side of the board. Each board is unique. Our skateboards advanced with the time to impressive art carriers. To express this point, we created the annual "Skate and Art" exhibition, where we showed our best graphical series and single pieces. The last "Skate and Art" tock place on 28th of January 2000. For the fist time we offered parallel to the exhibition in our "video chillout" a podium for local skatefilm producer to present their videos. Apart of our own productions and time documents of the history of skateboarding, "ZH2K" a " Zürichfilm" production and the video skate magazine "Saison" filled the program. AIRFLOW Our output raised from year to year. Also outside Switzerland people were interested in the agile and flexible skateboards. Slalomskating and longboarding is everywhere in trend where there are young people and fine asphalt. End of 1998 we decided to produce and sell slalom skateboards as mainjob. Over a certain number of skateboards it wasn't possible anymore to produce exclusively individual pieces. 1999 we founded a second trademark. Since that time we offer parallel to PC Slalomboards under the name Airflow slalomskateboards with serial design. PC Slalomboards and Airflow are both Swiss quality handcrafts. But with the design of Airflow we can work more productive. Therefore we are able to provide more different lengths and shapes in all degree of hardness and are still competitive. With certain exceptions Airflow is distributed in Switzerland trough No Way AG and in Europe through Surf2Go. |
